Mark graduated from Washington College summa cum laude with degrees in Anthropology and Environmental Studies. His senior thesis explored hunting and bioregionalism on Maryland's Eastern Shore. After graduation, Mark worked for an innovative green builder in Kent and Queen Anne's counties while renovating his own 100 year-old farmhouse on Skinners Neck in Rock Hall, MD.
Since starting with CES in 2007, Mark has worked in ecological restoration, volunteer coordination, and rural community planning. His key projects include the Chester River Oyster Restoration and Stewardship program at Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge, and assisting with the development of Washington College's prestigious Chesapeake Semester program.
Mark is currently working on a Ph.D. in ecological anthropology at the University of Georgia. He hopes to incorporate research in agriculture and marine science with health and nutrition in order to better understand the way that people feed themselves. He and Andrea Braverman '05 live in Athens, Georgia, with their dog, Cassie.
